Instrument Makar Products
Instrument Makar Products were designed by Dr. Lanny Johnson, M.D.
Dr. Johnson is an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, one of the pioneers in arthroscopic surgery.
In those early days, no one had developed dedicated knee scopes. Undeterred, Dr. Johnson created an entirely new, less invasive treatment option by using an early Dyonics® Needlescope endoscope for his knee arthroscopies. From that notable beginning, he has continued to pioneer the field.
He is an inventor, holding over 40 U.S. and foreign patents related to surgery. The most notable was the co-invention of the motorized instrumentation used daily worldwide, even now, more than 30 years later. The longevity of this invention is unprecedented in surgery.
After Wayne State College of Medicine, he interned in surgery and completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Washington University Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. He had specialty training in hand surgery under Joseph H. Boyes, M.D. at Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital.
He served in the United States Air Force Medical Corps as an orthopedic surgeon at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH.
He was in private practice of orthopedic surgery in East Lansing, MI, for more than 30 years. He is author of numerous scientific articles and several textbooks. He is a popular lecturer.
He was founder of orthopedic surgical company (Instrument Makar) he held for 20 years and subsequently sold in 2002.
Now retired from clinical practice since 1995, he is devoted to research and development in medicine.
It is amazing to consider the industry’s growth since Dr. Johnson’s first Needlescope days, and how far we’ve all come through the innovation.
